Stairlift Removal

Professional stairlift removal services

The removal of your stair lift will be done by an experienced technician who will make the process quick and easy. It’s important to note stairlifts are heavy and can be complicated to remove without knowledge of this type of equipment. For safety and to prevent any damage to your home it is always recommended a stair lift be removed by a qualified technician.

The lift removal process

The stairlift removal process can be done in 1-2 hours by our certified lift technicians. To disassemble a stairlift in an efficient manner requires a multi-part process with experience in lift mechanical and electrical systems. Our process begins with a quick assessment of the lift, associated hardware used to attach the mounting brackets to the stairs, and the location of the 110vac outlet used for the power supply.

Some stairlifts require special tools to disassemble the rail or to separate the chair from the main drive assembly. Since we’ve removed hundreds of lifts we always carry the proper tools and equipment to expedite this process.

What to expect after it’s removed

We’re often asked if there will be any visible signs of the lift installation after it has been removed. Typically on the Acorn stair lift, there will be four small holes about 1/8 in diameter where each rail bracket was attached to the stair tread. This will also be the case with Bruno and Harmar chairlifts.

If you have carpeted stairs in most cases all you’ll need to do is run a vacuum over this area a few times to return it to its original condition. If the stairs are hardwood then you’ll need to have the holes filled with matching wood putty.

The cost for stairlift removal

The cost for stairlift removal will depend on the type of lift and location. We can provide you with a price over the phone for removal if you have the following information.

  • Stairlift manufacturer and model number.
  • Approximate age of lift.
  • Is the lift straight or is it curved and turn around corners.

To schedule a removal call 866-721-6004 or use our contact form. Stair lift removal services are provided directly in N.VA, DC, and Maryland.

Can I donate my stairlift to a charitable organization?

Donating a stairlift may seem like a meaningful way to help someone in need, but the process is often far more complicated than it appears. Unlike other mobility aids, stairlifts are custom-built to fit the specific dimensions and layout of a staircase, making them difficult to repurpose for another home. Safety concerns, liability issues, and the cost of professional removal and reinstallation further complicate the donation process. Additionally, organizations that accept donations may lack the resources to inspect, refurbish, or transport such bulky equipment, while older models may not meet current safety standards.

After the lift has been removed and the rail has been dismantled you’ll have impressions in the carpet where the support posts were attached. These areas will usually return to normal over time.
